Chocolate + award-winning designer = Ultra chocolate

When a multi-award-winning architect gets his hands on something as malleable as chocolate, we would expect no less than some pretty cool looking snacks, but Japan’s Designer of the Year, Toronto-born Oki Sato of Japan’s Nendo design group, took this edible project to another level entirely. “Chocolatexture,” as it is aptly named, explores the concept that our food’s chemical composition isn’t the only thing affecting its taste. Texture plays an important role, and these smooth, sharp, granular, bubbly and crunchy morsels prove it. Each chocolate is made with the same ingredients, but each one offers a uniquely different taste experience. Only 400 limited-edition sets of 9 chocolates (each named after the texture it represents with an onomatopoeic Japanese word) are available for sale at the Maison & Objet trade show, which opens in Paris today. Get ’em quick—show’s over on January 27th.
