Wear Your Colours

It happens at least once every season, in every sport. A team that shouldn’t be good — that hasn’t been good for so long — is, suddenly, very good. They start winning. Playoff births become real possibilities, not just longed-for long shots. Arenas and stadiums start filling up, local TV news starts spending more time on sports, civic pride (and/or hysteria) sets in. If you’re a die-hard, these are the moments you live for. If you haven’t been paying attention, it can all seem a little perplexing. If you don’t like sports, it can be almost frightening. This should help.

While you might be inclined to sport the jersey of your home team, no matter what, just remember that no one has ever looked good in a Pheonix Coyotes kit. If you’re planning on jumping on the bandwagon based on sartorial decisions only, here are some of the best looking unis in all of sports.

New York Yankees (home pinstripes)

This is the ur-jersey. The one worn by Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, et al. You might get booed in certain ballparks, but you’ll always look good.

Oakland Raiders

Black and silver is always a winning combination.

Toronto Raptors (Drake alternate)

Extra points for being designed by Drake — but that’s not even why we like it. It’s a nice departure from the Raptors’ garish red (and, lest we forget, purple), and a whole lot more stylish than a glorified muscle shirt has any right to be.

Real Madrid (home)

Plain white. Black stripes on the shoulder. Badass.

Chicago Blackhawks

This Original Six jersey has remained more or less unchanged since 1896. It might not be entirely politically correct, but damn if it doesn’t look good. Helps that the Hawks are a modern-day dynasty, too.
