This Space Age Orb is the 3D Video Camera You’ve Been Waiting For

It looks like an orb from the future — or a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. While it doesn’t shoot lazers, it can, however, shoot your next vacation, in stereoscopic 3D video.

Here’s what that means: the Nokia OZO uses eight cameras and eight microphones to film 360-degree footage that can be viewed via an Oculus Rift, or one of the many other virtual reality headsets about to flood the market. What’s more, the video is captured in real-time, offering instant playback — no need to stitch together a panoramic image in post-production.
