It’s not every day a remote safari camp is shortlisted for a global design award, but that’s exactly what happened when &Beyond’s Okavango Safari Lodge in Botswana re-opened following an extensive renovation.
The swooping, curvaceous lines of the lodge’s rooms were inspired by the nests of weaverbirds, while their tiled roofs take cues from the scales of pangolin anteaters.
The design is impressive but understated, a choice that reflects the lodge’s mandate of creating the height of luxury in harmony with nature.
As a result, you can venture out at dawn to spot lion, cheetah, leopard and hippo (from jeep or helicopter) and then return to the comfort of amenities like butler service, private plunge pools and modern gym facilities at days’ end.
It’s a blueprint for the vacation of a lifetime.
