Tired of the City? This Sprawling LA Hideaway Might Be Your Answer

Ever watch Lord of the Rings and think to yourself, Hot damn, that Bilbo Baggins sure has one helluva crib? Well, consider this stunning Beverly Hills pad the top-shelf, ultramodern equivalent of a hobbit-hole.

The architects at Walker Workshop designed the home to take advantage of the 3.5 acre property’s panoramic canyon views while also respecting the 130 protected oak trees on the premises.

To do so, they built the home directly into side of the hill: the bedrooms are below-ground, covered by a vegetated roof that also helps to preserve the property’s natural setting. There’s also an angular courtyard garden on the lower level that allows fresh air and light to stream through the buried hallway that connects the bedrooms.

The public spaces, meanwhile, are all above ground, along with a 75-foot infinity pool that bisects the house beneath one of the largest oaks on the property.

Constructed primarily of structural concrete, this sprawling residence might be a little edgier than most hobbits are used to, but we’re positive we’d feel just as cozy and at home here as Bilbo did at Bag-End.
