A Hong Kong Man Spent Over $50,000 To Make This Scarlett Johansson Robot
A man in Hong Kong has accomplished what men everywhere only wish they could: he lives with Scarlett Johansson.
Well, okay, not exactly. The 42-year-old Ricky Ma built a robot from scratch in the uncanny likeness of the gorgeous actress. After spending 18 months and an excess of $50,000, Ma found himself sitting across from a bot that moves, makes facial expressions (including winks) and responds to verbal commands.
Ma himself has not admitted which Hollywood star he modelled the robot after, but one look at it (her?) and the muse he had in mind is clear.
We’re all for people building cool robots and even the ones that look freakishly human get a hesitant pass from us, but we have to draw the line when it comes to creepy celebrity bots. Something about programming a mechanical ScarJo to say ‘I love you’ just feels wrong. And sad.
Can’t help but wonder how Johansson (the real one) feels about it.
