Kodak’s Rebooted Super 8 Camera Will Make Your Home Movies Special Again

We’ve got nothing against guys who like staying on the bleeding edge, but just for a minute, forget Ultra HD cameras. Enough with 360-degree video. Screw drones. Digital technology, for all its wonderful benefits, can’t mimic the organic, grainy warmth of true film.

Kodak’s reboot of the Super 8 camera embraces the depth and beauty of the analog devices Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams cut their teeth shooting on. Created in conjunction with Swiss designer Yves Béhar, it harkens to the boxy design of the 1965 original (including the use of actual film). But don’t worry, there are modern touches, too: an SD slot, USB and HDMI connections, plus the option of sending away for 4K digital scans of your footage. Old gadget, new tricks, same magic.
