Here’s what we’re reading:

1. With 90,000 evacuated, Fort Mac fires expected to get worse

The wildfires now cover about 18,500 acres, officials said today. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley told reporters that over 1600 buildings were ablaze. Some evacuees were left stranded southbound on highway 63, the city’s main artery back to Edmonton, though a fuel tanker is enroute, the Edmonton Journal reported. And if history is any guide, the Financial Post writes, the economic fallout is going to be massive.

2. And then there was Trump

A day after Ted Cruz suspended his presidential campaign, the Republican’s last viable option dropped out too. John Kasich, the man who wouldn’t quit, finally did just that. The former governor of Ohio, who ran a campaign at the crossroad of moderation and sensibility, dropped out of the GOP nomination race this afternoon, heading the party’s ticket to one Donald Trump.

“A conventional candidate in an unconventional race,” the New York Times writes, “Mr. Kasich outlasted the other governors in the Republican field. But his longevity was largely a testament to his unbending refusal to drop out long after it became clear that voters were not flocking to his campaign.”

+1: With Trump now the presumptive nominee, some conservatives want to play ball with Barack Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.

3. *Spit-take* Criss Angel makes how much?

As if by magic, Criss Angel is still a thing. And not only is he a thing, but he’s pulling in some serious money. Bloomberg’s Paul M. Barrett investigates the high-profile magician and the success he’s found with his unique brand of tricks illusions.

According to Barrett’s sources, Angel is pulling in around $70 million a year, a sum that includes television rights, his roadshow performances, magic kits and merchandising and various sponsorships. “More than a mere magician, Angel is a miniconglomerate with a remarkably diversified—and vital—brand.”

4. Apple takes a mulligan on Music

Early this morning Bloomberg News reported that Apple is in the beginning stages of revamping its much maligned Apple Music app. This afternoon details emerged of how exactly the company plans to salvage this wreck. In short, it’s bigger album art, a simpler colour scheme and synced lyrics.

5. The Nazi underground

The New Yorker asks: Is there really Nazi treasure buried beneath the mountain of Poland?
