Watch This DC Sports Anchor Drink His Capitals-Induced Pain Away on Live TV

Another year, another early playoff exit for the Washington Capitals. On Tuesday night, the Presidents’ Trophy-winning squad were eliminated by their old foes the Pittsburgh Penguins, on the back of a three-point night from none other than Phil Kessel. Yes, that Phil Kessel. At this rate, Ovie and crew will probably get knocked out in 2017 by Gordon Bombay and Charlie Conway.

The person who took the loss hardest? Meet local DC sportscaster Michael Jenkins.

During a broadcast on Comcast SportsNet yesterday, Jenkins turned in a legendary performance. “You guys hear about the Caps?” he asked, before pulling a massive drink out from under his desk.

He wound up tossing the entire thing back over the course of the show, stopping intermittently to drop a few absolute gems: “Got a message for all you kids out there. I know everyone says, ‘Oh, you can do whatever you want if you put your mind to it.’ It’s all one big lie. Caps were supposed to win it all this season, they put their minds to it. Look what happened: crushing disappointment. Give up on your dreams.”

Watch your backs, Jay and Dan. Mike Jenkins is coming — stumbling? — for your national spot.
