You Don’t Hate Anything as Much as This NBC Sports Anchor Hates Backyard Badminton

Excellence in sports is not the only thing on display at the Olympics. It’s also a showcase for the best of the best in broadcasting the world over. Case in point: NBC’s tennis commentator Mary Carillo.

This segment from the 2004 Athens Olympics, one of the all-time great moments in Olympic broadcasting, starts as mild-mannered filler before quickly spiralling into something far different — an epic tirade about the shit show that is weekend badminton with her children.

“Mothers from all over the neighbourhood hear that badminton is being played at Mary’s house. They’re dropping off their kids, they know it’s going to be an all day affair, they know they’re going to be playing 17 other sports. They’re dropping off their kids! They’re leaving skid marks!”
