Is ‘The Case of JonBenet Ramsey’ the Next ‘Making A Murderer’?

And our true crime obsession rolls on. Hot on the heels of SerialThe Jinx, Making a Murderer, The People vs. O.J. Simpson and ESPN’s O.J.: Made in America, comes The Case of JonBenet Ramsey, a six-hour CBS docuseries that delves deep into one of the most haunting cold cases of the 1990s.

Twenty years after Ramsey’s gruesome murder, the series follows the original investigators and a few new experts as they attempt to finally piece together exactly what happened to the 6-year-old beauty pageant contestant. The show, which will air in three parts over September 18th, 19th and 25th, reexamines all the leads from decades past — JonBenet’s parents and brothers as suspects; the false confession of the unstable John Mark Karr — while recreating the Ramseys’ basement, the scene of the crime, in the hopes of discovering some new insight.

Given that Making a Murderer recently led to the overturning Brendan Dassey’s conviction, and the first season of Serial helped grant Adnan Syed a new trial, it’s not outrageous to hope this show might finally help to solve this case once and for all. Either way, we’ll be watching.
