Is This the Douchiest Goal Celebration of All Time?

Goal celebrations. We’ve all seen our fair share. Robbie Keane’s Irish jig; Eric Cantona’s feeling-himself stare; that time that Icelandic team went fishing. But rarely has a footballer displayed the kind of brazen, deliberate, downright mean-spirited savagery that Oxford United’s Chris Maguire unleashed after burying an injury-time penalty to seal a 2-1 victory over Peterborough United in England’s League One.

See for yourself:

To be fair, we don’t exactly watch a whole lot of third-tier English soccer, so we’re not totally certain about the context here. Maybe Peterborough’s goalkeeper Ben Alnwick taunted the crap out of Maguire earlier in the game? Maybe he said something ruthless and unsanitary about Maguire’s mother? Maybe Maguire was completely humiliated after Alnwick revealed he went to private school over a banging Mobb Deep instrumental? Maybe Alnwick framed Maguire for treason, had him locked away on a prison island for 13 years and then stole his girlfriend? Or maybe none of that happened, and Maguire is just a sociopath.

We may never know the truth.
