After You Read This Article, Every Day Will Be a Good Hair Day

Whether you’re rocking a summer (or we guess, winter) buzz, a trendy high-and-tight, or an all-business man bun, your hair says a lot about you. It is, for every man, a major source of pride. That’s why you should pay attention to what you put in it – your hair deserves a level of care equal to the level of self-worth it gives you. (Unless you’re actually wearing a man bun. In that case, please get yourself to a barber immediately.)

The Tools

1. Redken for Men Silver Charge Fortifying Silver Shampoo ($25)

Redken

You’ve heard of what we call, in the trade, a “silver fox.” If you’re very lucky, you’ll get to be one — but it takes the right care. If you’re going grey, try Redken’s line of grey-friendly shampoo. Your hair will be left stronger without feeling wiry, and any brassy tones will be neutralized — giving you even better hair than you had in your twenties.

2. American Crew 3-in-1 Tea Tree ($20)

ACrew

A shampoo that pulls triple-duty isn’t usually something we’d advocate, but this one from American Crew actually succeeds in removing oil build-up while conditioning hair and soothing a dry scalp. Plus, it can be used as a body wash to boot.

3. Taylor of Old Bond Street No. 74 Hair Tonic ($30)

Taylor

This tonic can be ordered either with or without oil. If your hair is dry or damaged and you’re in need of a little extra shine, the oil is your friend. If your hair already supplies enough of its own oil and just needs an extra boost of nourishment, feel free to go without.

4. Grant’s Golden Brand Matte Dressing Pomade ($30)

Grants

Unless you want shiny hair a la Ross Gellar, we recommend pomade with a matte finish like this one from Grant’s. This product does everything pomade needs to do (texture and sculpt), but leaves hair actually touchable without a corresponding grimace from your wife.

5. Beardhood Graille No. 3 Beard Oil ($45)

Graille

Yes, it says beard in the name, and yes, this product is technically oil for your beard, but it’s a versatile oil that can also be used in your hair and on your skin. It’s 100 per cent natural, vegan, and made with 25 essential oils that will leave your hair (or skin or beard) healthy, nourished, and smelling great.

You’re Going Bald Wrong

Bruce

Going bald is rough, we know. What starts off as a small spot just gets harder and harder to cover with each passing birthday. It’s simple enough to ignore or attempt to fix, what with a litany of corrective measures available to you, but, for the most part, those are a waste of money. Before you go running to your nearest tattoo parlour to have faux stubble etched on to your scalp for all eternity (yup, that’s a thing), remember what you’re really striving for in all things grooming: dignity. That means it’s probably time to bite the bullet and shave it all off. Being free of follicles hasn’t stopped LL Cool J, Jason Statham, Dwayne Johnson and goddamned Bruce Willis from saving the world and getting the girl. Trust us, a shiny dome won’t cramp your style…a combover definitely will.
