Jacques Cousteau is a little twee for our tastes, but we’ve always appreciated his taste for deep-sea exploration, even if we don’t love the waxed moustaches. That’s why we’re obsessed with Ortega Submersibles — they make submarines for the (extremely well-heeled) everyman.
The Mk. 1C is inspired by World War II-era submarines, but built for modernity: it’s a three-seated vessel with two electric motors, an on-board breathing apparatus, and a 66-gallon cargo hold. And it can dive nearly 100 feet — deep enough to see creatures that’d make David Attenborough shudder.
