1. Quebec unveils ‘zero-tolerance’ marijuana plan: No home-grown cannabis allowed

“Quebec will have zero tolerance for driving-while-high under its plan for legalized marijuana use and sale.

“Under draft legislation introduced Thursday, the province’s Liberal government would authorize police to test saliva samples from drivers and allow police to immediately suspend the licence of anyone driving with a trace of cannabis or illicit drugs for 90 days.”

2.  ‘Sick internal Culture’: says fired staff of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls inquiry

“Morene Gabriel said, in addition to concerns about care for family members who testify at the inquiry, it’s also a challenging place for staff to work.

“‘It’s very toxic in that there is a lot of undermining, communication is lacking, I can attest to this,” she said. “Internally, we have a culture of nepotism and favouritism.’

“She also questions if crucial information is getting from the grassroots level and the families through the directors and to the commissioners.”

3. GOP tax bill passes first hurdle in House, now moves to Senate

“The House passed a sweeping rewrite of the tax code on Thursday by 227-205, taking a significant leap forward as Republicans seek to enact $1.5 trillion in tax cuts for businesses and individuals and deliver the first major legislative achievement of President Trump’s tenure.

“Attention now turns to the Senate, which was grappling on Thursday with another setback after a congressional analysis found that their revised tax bill would actually raise taxes on lower-income Americans within a few years.”

4. ‘Al Franken kissed and groped me without my consent,’ Leeann Tweeden says. The senator apologized.

“Broadcaster and model Leeann Tweeden said Thursday that Al Franken ‘forcibly kissed’ and groped her during a USO tour in 2006, two years before the Minnesota Democrat’s election to the U.S. Senate — prompting Franken to apologize and call for a Senate ethics investigation into his own actions.”
