What Should I Save in the Event of a Fire?

First, if there’s really a fire, just get the hell out of there. Then? Loved ones. Pets. Duh. Those are non-negotiable.

But take an informal survey among friends, as we did, and the questions drift towards emotional keepsakes: maybe grab that Cabernet Sauvignon you were saving for a special occasion. Or something off that wall of diplomas. Or Nana’s golden bangles. But in the case of fire, you have to think fast — you can’t take everything.

The greatest repository of memories? Your laptop, whose hard drive is packed with photos, contacts, and irreplaceable documents. Everything else is replaceable.
