1. We hope it’s on Airbnb

“The Barrington Residence is located on a hillside in LA’s upscale Brentwood neighbourhood. The dwelling replaces an older home that had dark interiors and limited views of the surrounding terrain, according to Eric Rosen, who leads an eponymous studio in Culver City.

“Designed for a couple and their two children, the new dwelling takes its lead from the site and context, along with the client’s desire for indoor-outdoor living opportunities afforded by the pleasant climate in southern California.”

2. This gorgeous 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing just sold for over $1.3 Mil US

“As production wound down for the legendary 300 SL Gullwing, just 311 examples were built in its penultimate year of 1956. This beautifully restored Mercedes-Benz testifies to the model’s reputation as one of the most timeless designs.

“A substantial file of service and restoration invoices confirms that Mr. Leckey was committed to the refurbishment of the handsome Gullwing. He entrusted the car’s service to the marque experts at Hjeltness Restoration in Escondido, California, who, in addition to regular maintenance during the 1990s, installed a desirable NSL high-performance camshaft and a commensurately calibrated fuel pump and metering unit.”

3. Celebrity Chef David Chang is partnering with Netflix for new show Ugly Delicious

“Dubbed Ugly Delicious, the series will feature Chang eating and drinking with chefs, writers, artists, and entertainers at beloved restaurants around the world, all while discussing the traditions and shared experiences inextricably tied to comfort foods.

“Although Chang is no stranger to television, he hasn’t starred in his own show since the inaugural season of Mind of a Chef way back in 2012. Morgan Neville, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind the music-industry documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, is working with Chang as a director and executive producer.”

4. What car designers are bringing us in 2018

“The coming 12 months are likely to showcase just how dynamic the global car industry is at present — in technology, innovation and design.

“Global executives may not like the influences they so witheringly call “disruptors” — everything from environmental concerns to AI processing power that can cope with autonomous driving— but these forces are pulling car manufacturers in half a dozen different directions.”

5. Peter Jackson is using real archived footage to make a WW1 documentary

“The Lord of the Rings director is making a new feature documentary about World War I to mark the centennial of the war’s end, mining the archives of the BBC and London’s Imperial War Museum for material.

“The historical footage, much of which will not have been seen before, has been restored and hand-colorized. Jackson said the film will bring to life the real stories of people who lived through the 1914-18 conflict, which was billed as the ‘war to end all wars.’”
