Apps like Wealthsimple build diverse portfolios with low volatility. (Translation: they aren’t particularly risky.) But personal finance expert and author Preet Banerjee says automated investment isn’t a surefire path to riches.
“They are a middle-of-the-road option for people who don’t want to roll up their sleeves and do everything at the lowest cost,” he says.
That means if you know anything about investing — and have more specific goals than just stashing it away somewhere to keep pace with inflation — you might be better off with a real, human financial planner. But you knew that already.
