As a functional piece of honest-to-God work wear, the original Levi’s 501 jeans were designed to be long-lasting — the gold rush miners who sported them expected nothing less. But not even old Levi Strauss himself could have predicted that his company would still be churning out his bestselling style, the 501, some 145 years after the original patent was filed. In honour of that anniversary this May, Levi’s has released a line of limited edition 501s, complete with specially embroidered selvedge detailing and sparkling gold-plated buttons down the fly.
It’s a subtle update on a genuine classic. And yes, all these years later, they still go with everything.
