The cup of the future has its eye on you, and all those calories you’re about to guzzle

Good news! We’re living in the frickin’ future. Imagine a drinking glass that could tell exactly what you’ve poured in it—be it red wine, a Starbucks iced skinny mocha (don’t deny it), a protein shake or a Perrier—and accurately track the caffeine, alcohol, sugar and everything else you consume. The Vessyl is real and it can tell a Pepsi from a Coke as well as you can. Actually.

Granted, we don’t want all of our holiday booze calories added up and laid out in front of us in plain guilt-inducing sight, but damned if we don’t need it. The cup’s sophisticated sensors analyze the contents on a molecular level, using technology that, according to the brand, is in the same realm as that used in the food industry’s quality control process. The brand points out that by regulating our hydration levels, along with factors like caffeine consumption, we can live a much healthier life. Sleep quality can be improved upon (hello caffeine), suspicious weight gain can be explained (thanks beer) and even monitoring consumption of liquid protein (eg. the post-workout shake) can help make the most of our workouts.

Did your brain just explode a little bit like ours did?

Cheers to good health in 2015!
