How to Open a Bottle of Wine without a Corkscrew

1)   Make sure the cork is actually cork. Plastic won’t work.

2)   Remove one shoe (a heavier leather-soled shoe with a heel works best).

3)   Place the base of the wine bottle in the shoe.

4)   Using the shoe as a buffer (to avoid shattering the bottle), strike the wine bottle perpendicularly against a sturdy wall.

5)   Repeat. The impact transferring through from wall to shoe to bottle to liquid will eventually drive the cork out far enough out to grab a hold of it.

6)   Pause for applause, pour and enjoy.
