How To Wear A Navy Blazer

On the list of style staples that belong in every man’s closet, the navy blazer is right at the top. It has the ability to be dressed up or down, worn with prints or with like-minded colours, and in a variety of fabrics. We’ve rounded up a few different ways to wear the classic coat, and included a few rules to guide the looks.

Unexpected Combination

Navy blazers have the luxury of looking pulled together no matter what other fabrics it’s paired with. So why not have some fun? The unexpected combination of seersucker pants and a cotton shirt with a fun print works well thanks to a blazer that pulls it all together.

Experiement with Patterns

If you’re going to forgo a white dress shirt in favour of one with a little more pizazz, it’s time to dip your toe into the patterned pool. To work a pattern in slowly, pick a shirt that is grounded in the same shade as your blazer. This way, the pattern will truly pop without looking like a bundle of paint swatches.

Less Is More

Playing around with fabrics is a great way to turn a regular navy blazer into a statement piece without overdoing it. A nontraditional fabric like velvet can take an outfit from the office to an after-hours party in a second. Letting your girlfriend wear it instead will do that too.

Layer Shades of Blue

Colours really tend to pop when you pair them with different shades that keep it in the family. Maintaining a straight-forward colour block (say, with a chambray denim shirt) ensures that your outfit will look dapper with minimal effort. You don’t even need a tie!

Dress It Down

Arguably, one of the dressier blazers on this list, this double breasted pinstripe can be easily dressed down with a crew-neck sweater. Just think about grabbing items from either end of the wardrobe spectrum (dressy and casual) and pairing them up.

Classic Combination

A navy blazer can take you through a multitude of events and outings. The classic combination of a navy blazer paired with a white dress shirt and a red tie is a look that you can wear to work, corporate events, weddings or funerals. This is a grown ass man’s go to.
