Jose Bautista Is Denim’s Newest Champion
Jose Bautista and the rest of the Blue Jays have been killing it lately. You’ve probably noticed. And you may think the man would be spent after playing every single game, practicing in between, and doing whatever else he does in his spare time (probably sleep), but it turns out he’s also found time to collaborate with the Canadian jean company, Silver Jeans Co. Together, they’ve come up with two denim styles that fit Jose, both literally and figuratively. We chatted with the all-star slugger about his new favourite jeans and how he likes to wear them.
How do you choose the jeans you wear?
Versatility is number one for me. I like all kinds of jeans: casual ones, crazy ones with holes and all kinds of different features. I wear them during the day, and at night. I travel in them. They’re comfortable. For this series with Silver Jeans in particular, we kept it very simple and comfortable.
They have been really open to allowing me to put some of my flavour into this collaboration series.
Do you prefer light or dark wash jeans?
I like the darker ones. I have more dark than light, but in my closet, you will see a little bit of everything.
Do you wear jeans over the weekend when you’re going out?
All the time. Like I said, versatility is huge for me and, for the most part, jeans are something you can always wear.
Tell me how the collaboration happened with Silver Jeans?
One of my business managers has a longstanding relationship with Michael from Silver. I had an interest of starting to get some experience and learn more about the fashion industry because it’s a passion of mine…I think I’m going to dive into it later when I retire. It’s been a great run so far. I got to learn a lot about how to make jeans, about the fashion industry, what it takes, the do’s and don’ts. For me it’s been a huge learning process and they’ve been great to me. They have been really open to teaching me everything, and open to listening to my ideas and allowing me to put some of my flavour into this collaboration series. It’s come out great.
So there might be the possibility of Jose Bautista line down the future.
Maybe. I don’t know if that is going to be the name of it. But I don’t know yet. We’ll see. I know that I like to put myself together and I like to be presentable at all times. I think that is all you need, that desire to look good and appreciate when others do as well.
I watched this funny clip of Kawasaki doing this happy dance at one of the games. Which style of Silver Jeans would you recommend to him?
I think the Eddie. He is more of a slim, fit guy and out of those in my line, that’s the slimmest one. I think he would enjoy those. As a matter in fact, I just received a box that Silver was kind enough to send me, with all kinds of jeans for all my teammates. So he is going to get a pair.
