Watch the Islanders’ Nikolay Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski Become Brooklyn’s Worst Hipsters

If you suffered through watching the Burke-era Toronto Maple Leafs, then you surely remember Nikolay Kulemin and Mikhail Grabovski. Right? Okay, maybe you don’t. The mind tends to bury painful memories. Also, Kulemin and Grabovski were always more low-key grinders than top-line studs. They were sort of obscure in that way.

That’s exactly what makes Kuley and Grabbo such perfect candidates for hipsterdom. This video, shot by The Fourth Period, sees the Leafs-turned-New York Islanders attempt to adapt to their Brooklyn relocation by immersing themselves in the local skinny-jeaned, vinyl-worshipping culture. You will straight up chortle watching these Ruskies trade in the borscht for lattes (“Can I have an izpressa?”) and attempt to hipster-ize their wardrobes (“Everthing wintage”). Yes, about 90 per cent of the humour here is in their hilarious accents. But the whole thing’s endearing as hell. Come back to Toronto, guys! Parkdale needs you.
