These GIFs of John Scott at the NHL All-Star Game Will Warm Even the Most Cynical Heart

The Internet is often a cruel and inhospitable place. Read the comments on our Guns N’ Roses Facebook post for proof of that. But every once in a while the Internet pulls out something so great and wonderful and wholly heartwarming, even the most jaded cynic has to feel something. And that’s what happened at last night’s NHL All-Star Game in Nashville.

After fans banded together online to vote fourth-line defenceman John Scott into the annual exhibition, the NHL tried to prevent the enforcer from participating, going so far as to suggest his 5-year-old children might be ashamed of the situation. Then a Coyote, Scott was traded to the Canadiens and promptly dropped to the minors.

Ultimately, though, Scott was still allowed to play, and delivered a performance for the ages yesterday. He scored two goals and picked up the game’s MVP award. John Scott now has more All-Star goals than Sidney Crosby. Just chew on that for a little bit.

Before the game, former teammates Joe Pavelski and Brent Burns gave some solid advice to the first time All-Star. “They just told me, ‘Go to the net. Keep your stick on the ice. We’ll find you. We’ll get you a couple,’” Scott told Sportsnet.

And that’s exactly what he did on his first goal of the night.

He’s a little wobbly on the follow through, but for a man with 11 NHL goals, he sure has some good form on that sweep.

Later in the game, Scott laid a bodycheck on Patrick Kane. It’s maybe a little pedestrian, but can you really remember a bigger hit in the history of the All-Star Game? Awesome.

Here’s the full clip of his “fight” with Kane that followed.

To finish up a stellar performance, Scott buried his second goal on the breakaway.

In a perfect twist of fate, scumbag Gary Bettman actually had to award Scott, the Pacific Division captain, the $1 million prize money.

Scumbag.

Watch Scott’s reaction as they announce the winner for the game’s MVP:

“Me? I won?” What a hero.

And as the crowd chanted “MVP,” Scott’s Pacific Division teammates carried him around the rink.

Seriously, this is like something out of Rudy.

Way to go, Internet. You done good this time.
