Here’s Your First Look at Toronto FC’s New Alternate Kit

With its 10th season in MLS kicking off Sunday against New York Red Bull, Toronto FC is looking a little blue. Not to worry, TFC fans, nobody’s sad — Giovinco hasn’t run off back to Europe — we meant that literally. After a decade of predominantly red and charcoal uniforms, the club has shaken things up by introducing a thin stripe of blue to its fresh new alternate kit:

The additional colour might seem a little far outside the TFC oeuvre, but it’s actually a nod to Toronto’s soccer past — namely, the NASL’s Toronto Blizzard, who donned red, white and blue en route to the 1976 Soccer Bowl Championship. Hopefully, given Toronto’s reputation for disappointment in MLS, the added historical mojo will help fuel the team to the deep playoff run their exasperated fans have been not-so-patiently waiting for.
