1. Top Trump official says U.S. isn’t offering ‘anything’ to Canada in exchange for NAFTA demands

“The Trump administration is demanding NAFTA concessions from Canada and Mexico but not offering “anything” in exchange, U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Wednesday.

“Ross’s remarkable public statement corroborates the complaints of Canadian and Mexican officials, who have accused the U.S. of taking an unusually and unreasonably hard line in the talks to renegotiate the North American free trade pact.”

2. Canada’s housing market ‘highly vulnerable,’ CMHC warns

“Canadian housing markets are highly vulnerable and at risk of being hit by overbuilding, overvaluation and too-quick price appreciation, the national housing agency said Thursday.

“The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation singled out housing markets in Toronto, Hamilton, Vancouver, Victoria and Saskatoon for being ‘highly vulnerable’ for a combination of factors.”

3. Bill Morneau pledges to donate money earned from Morneau Shepell shares

“Finance Minister Bill Morneau says he plans to donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of his shares in the family business.

“Morneau tells the House of Commons he will donate the difference in the value of his Morneau Shepell shares between the date they were sold and the date he was elected in 2015. Morneau made the announcement as he continued to face Opposition questions about how he handled his personal finances after becoming minister.”

4. Climate change might be worse than thought after scientists find major mistake in water temperature readings

“The methodology widely used to understand sea temperatures in the scientific community may be based on a mistake, the new study suggests, and so our understanding of climate change might be fundamentally flawed.

“The new research suggests that the oceans hundreds of millions of years ago were much cooler than we thought. If true, that means that the global warming we are currently undergoing is unparallelled within the last 100 million years, and far worse than we had previously calculated.”

5. Twitter is banning all ads from Russian news agencies RT and Sputnik effective immediately

“Twitter announced on Thursday that it would ban all advertisements from the Russian news agencies RT and Sputnik.

‘Twitter has made the policy decision to off-board advertising from all accounts owned by Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik, effective immediately,” the company wrote in a statement posted on its blog.'”
