Saint Laurent Takes the Runway to Marrakech for SS23 Showing
Rather than battling the crowds in Paris during Fashion Week this year, Saint Laurent took a distinctly different approach to showcasing its Men’s Spring Summer 2023 collection. Instead, the brand took of to Marrakech — a destination close to the heart of Yves Saint Laurent since the late ’60s — embracing the beauty of the Agafay desert, and embracing the interplay between the landscape and Anthony Vaccarello’s latest designs for the longstanding legacy house.
High waists, wider legs, and generally more flowing silhouettes proved to be a recurring theme in this season’s show, in part reflective of the ease of life typical of Marrakech. The tuxedo — a Saint Laurent staple — also saw repeated reinterpretation in this show, including varying levels of adaptation in shoulders, collars, and fabric selections. What’s more, we’re continuing to see Vaccarello’s intent to play with gender normativity, designing pieces that are clearly wearable for men and all the while defying conventions of what might make attire more masculine versus feminine. As you’ll see in the full gallery below, the end result is equal parts charming and tasteful.
