The ‘Deadpool 2’ Trailer Drags ‘Justice League’ and Channels ‘Toy Story’

Our favourite motormouthed mercenary is back to kick us right in the fourth wall all over again.

The first trailer for the follow-up to 2016’s best superhero movie, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, just dropped and it’s got all the irreverent metacriticism you were hoping for. The clip starts off by introducing Cable — Deadpool’s grizzled, machine-armed frenemy (played by Josh Brolin) — before our boy Wade Wilson interjects to kvetch about the shoddy, pre-VFX footage and take a nice shot at Justice League’s costly post-production removal of Henry Cavill’s facial hair (“Why are the visual effects not done? It’s a metal arm! It’s not like we’re trying to remove a moustache!”). He then has a go at doing the VFX himself — by way of a pretty explicit action figure fight. Once those shenanigans are done, we get a glimpse of the actual movie, which includes Cable kicking ass with a now-fully-CGI’d arm, Zazie Beetz being badass as Domino, and an actor who sure looks a whole lot like Terry Crews. (And surprisingly, no Thanos jokes! Though we’re sure those are still to come.)

Here’s the official(ly batshit) synopsis for the movie:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

Deadpool 2 (or whatever they wind up naming it) hits theatres May 18.
