Norqain’s NHLPA Watch Brings a Different Kind of Ice to Your Wrist

Unlike other sports, there’s not a lot of connection between the NHL and the luxury watch market aside from the watches that adorn the wrists of the league’s top earners. All the better for Swiss upstart Norqain, a staple of the entry-luxury watch world since 2018, as it quickly found footing as a partner of the NHL Players Association, and just recently unveiled its second collaboration: the Norquain Wild ONE NHLPA Limited Edition.

Launched at a pop-up event in Toronto at the new L’ORO Flagship boutique on Bloor and Avenue during the NHL All-Star weekend, the new Wild ONE leans further into melding the sport into its design. Its ice textured white dial is an immediate giveaway (as is the NHLPA logo on its dial), but even its black case hides further connection. Within its inner and outer NORTEQ composite case shell — a top and bottom section, bolted together — the entire midcase of the watch is a shock absorbing rubber, partly composed of the same material used to make hockey pucks.

For this latest edition, only 300 examples of the NHLPA Limited Edition will be offered, which will come as a disappointment to many. The Wild ONE has already become a popular choice in the brand’s catalog, thanks to its clever lightweight case design, integrated rubber strap, and its robust COSC-certified and in-house manufacture calibre NN20/1 with a power reserve of 70 hours. Adventure-ready watches are still having quite the moment, and the “survive everything” construction of this reference fits the bill perfectly.
