Here’s What Steve Wozniak Had to Say About Apple’s Privacy Battle With the FBI

Earlier tonight, during an appearance on Conan, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak — a.k.a. “The Woz” a.k.a. the guy Seth Rogen played in Steve Jobs  — weighed in on the landmark legal battle currently being waged between Apple and the FBI.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, the FBI recently ordered the tech giant to provide them with a backdoor method to override the encryption of an iPhone that belonged to one of the San Bernardino shooters. Apple has adamantly refused, arguing that developing such a method would irrevocably affect the privacy of all smartphone users and set a frightening precedent for future government investigations.

Here’s what Wozniak had to say:

“You do not want to let something like that out,” he said, referring to the potential backdoor software. “Once you create it, there’s a good chance hackers will get into it. What if China says, ‘Apple, you’ve got to give us a backdoor so we can get into any phone, even your government officials’ iPhones, and inspect them anytime’? That’s wrong.

“Security is an important thing now. Look how many people get hurt; millions of people’s accounts get exposed everyday.”

We couldn’t agree more, Woz. Keep fighting the good fight.
