Dockers and EFM Have Reinvented the Modern Man’s Wardrobe

Dockers may have turned 30 this year, but there’s no sign of a mid-life crisis. Instead, the brand has been more active than ever, first celebrating their history with an all-khaki collection, and now, looking to the future with a street-savvy collaboration with the new American luxury brand Engineered for Motion.

While at first glance this may seem like an odd-couple, when you delve into the details, you realize that it’s an inspired match. Both brands share a goal of creating modern, liveable clothing that are smartly designed and technically advanced. “We wanted to create a collection that represented the future of menswear design,” explains Richard Lau, Dockers’ director of design. “Like life, fashion evolves and your clothing needs to match your lifestyle. It was important to blur the lines of modern comfort, performance, and classic menswear.”

Working with EFM founder Donrad Duncan, the collection features 17 pieces that are multifunctional and can be easily mixed and matched, creating a functional and versatile wardrobe. “The whole idea of EFM x Dockers is playing with the classics — taking the classics and moving it forward,” says Duncan. This idea of reinventing traditional pieces can be seen in items like the two-button blazer that marries a classic silhouette, complete with surgeon cuffs, with rubber-coated buttons and hidden zip pockets, or the overcoat that is punched up with a techno take on a camo print. The collection is rounded out with knits, hoodies, joggers, and yes, a couple pairs of khakis.

While collaborations may be a dime a dozen lately, most end up a flash in the pan — something trendy that you’ll love one season and forget about the next. But Dockers and EFM have succeeded at creating pieces that can co-exist with your current wardrobe, and even make it better — that’s why you’ll want to keep wearing them for years to come.
