Adidas and Reigning Champ Just Reinvented the Tracksuit
Adidas has an eye for collaborations — Kanye West, Raf Simons, BAPE to name a few — and after their successful capsule collection with Canadian brand Wings + Horns, they’ve set their sites on W+H’s sister label, Reigning Champ. The duo have paired up for a full collection of sleek athleisure pieces, but the most exciting thing to come out of the collab has to be the reinvention of one of adidas’s most recognizable items: the Superstar tracksuit.
This new take on a classic is dubbed the Made in Canada pack, and it ditches the primary colours and poly-blend construction of the original in favour of an understated tone-on-tone colour scheme of either light or dark grey in Reigning Champ’s signature heavyweight terry fabric. What hasn’t been tweaked is the cut and use of the 3-stripe detailing — hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The name of the collab isn’t just for show either, the tracksuits are actually made in RC’s Vancouver factories.
In this day and age, a new launch needs a face, and who better to model this reimagined Made in Canada tracksuit than Canadian basketball’s golden child Andrew Wiggins? There’s something nostalgic yet also just right about seeing an athlete kitted out in a full tracksuit and warming up on the court, ready to win.
