City Tours: Menswear Designer Jonathan Cavaliere Shares Toronto’s Hidden Gems

Of course, whether you’re discovering the city’s hidden gems or revisiting your favourite haunts, a sturdy and stylish pair of boots is essential. For our City Tours series with SOREL, we asked custom menswear designer and Canada’s sharpest man Jonathan Cavaliere to show us his Toronto.
Favourite neighbourhood in the city and why?
As a former Eastender, I would have to go with my roots and say the East Bayfront. It’s got a little bit of everything! There is nothing better than biking along the water in the summer and hitting up hot spots like Sugar Beach. The best part is that it’s only steps from the hustle and bustle of King Street, which has some of the most beautiful architecture in the city.
Nature walk or pounding the pavement?
Definitely pounding the pavement! I get energized by the hustle and bustle of the city. In a strange way, it makes me feel like anything is possible.
Any go-to spots for a bite and a coffee?
There are a ton of hidden gems in the city, but my go-to is Souk Tabule. It has a ton of healthy and delicious Middle Eastern favourites like the grilled Atlantic salmon kebab – it’s to die for. If you’re a coffee connoisseur like me, you need to try their Lebanese coffee; think of the mouthfeel of a French press with super rich flavour.
Best parks in the city for a stroll?
Tommy Thompson Park is definitely my favorite park in the city. It’s just past Cherry Beach and in my opinion, it has the best view of the Toronto skyline. The park is also a bird research center, so you often see different kinds of wildlife that you could never believe lived downtown. That said, make sure you have a couple of hours to spare if you want to truly enjoy the park on foot.
