Levi’s X Princess Mononoke: Two Distinctive Identities Team Up For An Eye-Popping Collection
Opposites attract. In a romantic context, that’s a controversial statement: some credit their partner’s sense of adventure for balancing out their homebody tendencies, while others say shared interests are the glue that holds their relationship together. Now, we won’t try to settle the great romantic debate in one article — but when it comes to clothing, we can confidently say that unlikely team-ups have their charm. Our evidence? The new Levi’s X Princess Mononoke campaign.
The denim brand is known for their top-notch durability as much as their high-quality designs. Inspiration came from the movie’s style, with Levi’s noting that “Princess Mononoke features hand-painted backgrounds depicting gorgeous scenes in nature.” The hand-painted scenes easily found their way off the screen and only the design floor. Dreamlike depictions of woodsy landscapes integrate with classic denim textures, floating onto the back of jean jackets and pants.
Several Levi’s staples, including 501 jeans, became the canvas for the Levi’s X Princess Mononoke designs. Studio Ghibli’s bubbly cartoon style splashes onto the classic cut of denim jackets, jeans, and shorts. Refreshing palettes comprised of cerulean blues and moss greens accent essential Levi’s silhouettes. Their nature-inspired scenes are vibrant, to be sure, but they coordinate well with neutral wardrobe staples, standing out from the crowd without overpowering your look.
Two sections, day and night, compose Levi’s X Princess Mononoke. For the graphics, the team said they “used the forest and sun background from the film, and integrated the scenery with the denim. The sky imagery is actually the light blue wash of the denim coming through, so it’s this lovely integration of the art and our denim.” Meanwhile, graphic tees and hoodies offer a streetwear-focused look, contrasting the serenity of denim landscape scenes with bolder, action-packed aesthetics. Flashy red accessories combine Levi’s red tab with film designs.
Levi’s X Princess Mononoke will be in stock at Toronto’s Eaton Centre on August 10th, 2023, but site members can gain exclusive early access to the app exclusive launch on August 8th.
