In London, SHARP Joins David Beckham for the Launch of BOSS ONE Bodywear
Last night, David Beckham was everywhere. He was among the crowd, sharp as ever in a trim navy suit, greeting guests including Gordon Ramsay and Guy Ritchie. He was projected across the fluorescent walls of London’s Lightroom — an immersive four-storey space in the British capital’s King’s Cross district — starring in a new film for BOSS by legendary photography duo, Mert and Marcus. He was even hanging in the entryway; vast, backlit campaign stills in which he was wearing the tank tops, T-shirts and trunks of the new BOSS ONE bodywear collection.

Admittedly, his head may have been cropped off in some shots — but you still know it’s Beckham in those briefs. And that’s what makes the soccer star such a perfect brand ambassador, not to mention a natural choice for BOSS. He’s an icon, a legend of the game, and genuinely passionate about these new products.
“I once said that my bodywear modelling days had come to an end,” shares Beckham, who will turn 50 later this year, “but when BOSS shared their ambition for the range and brought in my good friends Mert and Marcus to shoot the campaign with their brilliant creative ideas, I simply couldn’t refuse.”

BOSS announced its multi-year design collaboration with Beckham last summer, but specifically tapped Mert and Marcus for the new bodywear campaign. It was an excellent choice, with the pair (who have worked with perfume houses, fashion labels and musicians during their illustrious, visionary career) perfectly capturing the intimate essence of the new range. Theirs is a distinctive, hyperreal style — sensual and moody — which brings out the best in both Beckham and BOSS. Such is their influence, they were once awarded an honorary fellowship from London’s Royal Photographic Society, founded just two miles from where Lightroom stands today.

This venue, too, was the ideal choice by BOSS. Equipped with the latest digital projection and audio technology, the space was unveiled only last summer. But it proved the perfect place to debut the campaign film, which was designed by the Team Laird agency and sees Beckham rolling up to a warehouse apartment in another British icon: the Aston Martin DB5.
And even this is fitting. Because, although BOSS is a German brand — founded in Metzingen in 1924 — the previous century has seen the label create for and collaborate with several UK ambassadors, including actor Henry Cavill, boxer Anthony Joshua , and former F1 World Champion Jenson Button. London, then, was the perfect city in which to launch Beckham’s BOSS ONE bodywear collection. Fellow Briton and Grammy award-winning musician Mark Ronson was even on hand to soundtrack the party.

It was an exclusive affair, with SHARP toasting the new launch with champagne and Golden Martinis crafted on-site by luxury gin brand Seventy One. But, while the campaign film made its debut at Lightroom, it will soon be seen across the world. In a brand first, Beckham’s BOSS ONE film will be screened in movie theatres, and premiere on streaming platforms including Netflix, Amazon and HBO Max. Those instantly recognizable campaign shots will also appear on billboards globally, so be on the lookout for larger-than-life Beckhams, all wearing BOSS ONEs.

It’s not just Beckham, of course. True to fashionable form, BOSS has also called upon tens of other talented stars to try out their new bodywear — including actor Rob Raco, from Windsor, Ontario, who will be revealing his own BOSS ONE campaign next week. Crafted from a figure-hugging blend of cotton and elastane, the whole collection will be available from February, and comes in ultra-versatile shades of black, white, and grey. And, while BOSS may call them underwear ‘essentials’, Beckham and this refined campaign has convinced us: these basics are anything but.
