Beatlemania in Beverly Hills: Gagosian Hosts Paul McCartney Photo Exhibition

There are few pop-cultural moments as transcendent as Beatlemania. Even today, those who weren’t alive throughout the British rock band’s peak of popularity through the 1960s understand the significance and permanent imprint of the group. And while the songs and stories live on, what so often gets lost in retellings of the phenomenon are the real people behind the personas. This spring, Gagosian offers intimate insight into the lives of the Beatles during the height of their powers in an exhibition of recently rediscovered photographs by Paul McCartney — including some previously unseen — at its gallery in Beverly Hills.

Featuring 36 works composed of images taken between December 1963 and February 1964, the exhibition offers an indelible snapshot of Beatlemania during the year they transformed from a buzzy boy band to a revolutionary global phenomenon. McCartney collaborated with Gagosian to produce the prints in small editions and signed each one. Incorporating pictures shot in London, Liverpool, Paris, New York, Washington, D.C., and Miami, the exhibition is on view from April 25 to June 21, 2025. A portion of sale proceeds will also be donated to support ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in Southern California following the devastating wildfires.

Hearkening back to a pivotal moment in 20th-century cultural history, McCartney’s photographs offer never-before-seen insight into the intersection of time, place, and personality. Taken together, the collection creates a cohesive retelling of the era, not only due to its unique point of view, but also because it demonstrates the musician’s natural talent as a photographer. Blending self portraits, candid moments between his bandmates, and the absurd fanfare and pandemonium met at every turn, McCartney has put together a truly singular archive.
