This Guy’s Multi-Instrument Performance of Rush’s ‘Tom Sawyer’ Is Impressive, But Flawed

This video of musician Dominic Fragman performing Rush’s seminal 1981 track “Tom Sawyer” has been making the rounds lately. And, fine, it’s fairly impressive: he plays the guitar and drum parts simultaneously and manages a passable Geddy Lee vocal impersonation.

What irks me, though, is that reputable websites have posted this video claiming dude is playing “every instrument required” for “Tom Sawyer.” Every instrument, you say? Every instrument? You may note that I mentioned only a Geddy Lee vocal impersonation. Which means I am left with no choice but to ask: WHERE’S DA BASS?

Seriously, my guy, you think you can honestly do “Tom Sawyer” justice without its main driving ingredient? That’s like trying to make a pizza without crust, like trying to build a bicycle with no wheels. You just can’t do it.

Please go back to the drawing board, Dominic, and don’t come back until you’ve found a way to integrate some of that sweet ‘n low four-stringed goodness into your little sideshow. Or, at the very least, give Geddy’s foot keyboards a go. This guy’s got the right idea:
