Yesterday, Kevin O’Leary dropped out of the Conservative Party of Canada leadership race, ending his short and ignominious bid for Trump-like world (er, Canadian) domination. Although he’d never admit it, the whole affair was rather bleak. The star of Shark Tank and Dragon’s Den entered the race to replace Stephen Harper late — just three months ago — and despite causing a stir in the press, never made much of a dent. He repeatedly refused to participate in debates, never set an entirely concrete agenda, and, more than anything, proved he’s a completely hopeless linguist. (To his credit, he cited his poor French skills as his main reason for dropping out.)
But in true reality TV star fashion, O’Leary’s greatest mistake in this whole mess was not keeping his mouth shut. Why? Because a quote from his final press conference made its way onto Twitter — where, adding insult to injury, he was summarily dissed by William Shatner.
O’Leary was reported to have claimed that he’s the most famous Canadian star on American television:
I'm the best known Canadian on American television says Kevin O'Leary. Somewhere @WilliamShatner just did a spittake.

Which, not unreasonably, confused one particularly famous Canadian TV star:

Who did not stand for that kind of humiliation, at all:

Even better? Shatner’s 2.5 million followers got in on the action, too, piling on to O’Leary’s outrageous claim — and outrageous ego — to knock him down to size.

The one upshot in this sordid mess? We can now go back to comfortably ignoring both of them.
