Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to warm up your favourite fancy pens and get your chequebooks out and at the ready. The third annual Design Exchange Design Auction is taking place in Toronto tomorrow and bringing with it a host of goods that you’re going to want in your home.
Both live and silent auctions will take place throughout the night and will feature limited edition furnishings, one-of-a-kind decorative pieces, and highly coveted design wares. We’ve chosen a few things you’ll want to keep an eye out for.
Maarten Baas’s Smoke Chair
Manufactured & Donated by Moooi
How many pieces of furniture in your home can you say were finished with fire? Probably none. The Smoke Chair should be your first and last. A true statement piece, this black leather chair will garner attention and impress guests with its cracked wood finish.
Garrison by Stacklab + Rebart
Donated by Stacklab
Own a piece of Toronto history while you still can. This elegant side table is a sculptural casting made using steel salvaged from the former historic Garrison bridge in Toronto. These tables were created in a limited series featuring only 102 units.
Freistil 173 Set by Muller Wulff
Donated by Jalice Interiors
You never expect furniture sold at an auction to actually be as comfy as it looks, but the Freistil 173 — designed by Danish duo Muller Wulff — is so cozy, you’ll have a hard time resisting the urge to sit in it while you’re bidding.
Halo Pendants by Matthew McCormick Studio
Donated by Matthew McCormick Studio
Recently exhibited at Milan Design Week, this elegant lighting system by Vancouver’s Matthew McCormick can be suspended in numerous compositions and doubles as an art installation in its own right.
Samsung Serif TV
Donated by Samsung
The Serif isn’t just a TV — it’s a minimalistic piece of furniture designed to complement virtually any environment it’s placed in. It looks great from any and every angle, and comes in a few different sizes and colours to sync perfectly with your home’s aesthetic.
Two-night Stay at Fogo Island Inn
Donated by Fogo Island Inn
Situated on an island off Newfoundland and designed by architect Todd Saunders, Fogo Island Inn has accrued worldwide acclaim for its jaw-dropping contemporary design and the equally stunning nature that surrounds it.
Twisted Light by Brothers Dressler
Donated by Brothers Dressler
Created by local Toronto designers Brothers Dressler, the Twisted Light is a pendant lighting fixture made from steam-bent reclaimed solid wood. The eight branches that coil around the bulb can be twisted and shaped to create a different look as often as is needed.
