Short of looking at their books, there’s no way to know for sure, but Barry Sharp, CEO of Vancouver-based small business consulting firm AMA Management, offers a few theories:
1) If it’s been there for years the owners may also own the building (or pay far less rent than their hipster neighbours).
2) The owner’s profits are more emotional than monetary. Maybe they don’t need the money and are happy to just come to work doing something they enjoy every day. Imagine that!
3) Money doesn’t just launder itself, you know.
