From Limb Apparel, to Sully Wong, to Sully & Son Co., George Sully has maintained a strong yet somewhat under-the-radar presence in streetwear over the last couple of decades. He’s also the vision behind Black Designers of Canada — a non-profit national database built to help amplify the voices of black designers in all disciplines. Earlier this month, Sully announced a partnership running with eBay that kicks off on Valentine’s Day — a new limited edition made-to-order sneaker to be sold through the e-commerce giant, with 100% of its sale proceeds going to Sully’s charity.
The classic low sneaker remains true to Sully’s usual style — a clean and simple profile that runs along the lines of the beloved Air Force 1 Low, finished in supple black leather. On its side panel, you’ll notice a quote from Sully himself; “It’s not just about inviting us to the table. It’s acknowledging the fact that we helped build the legs on which it stands.”
With a sticker price of $200 — considering a standard Sully & Son sneaker will set you back $190, the limited nature of the release, the charitable element, the Canadian connection, etc — this new collab is really a no-brainer who’s overdue for a pair of black sneakers in their closet. eBay has had fairly significant involvement in the sneaker world since its inception, frequently competing with StockX and others for dominance of the secondary sneaker market, and to see their team step up in support of this initiative over Black History Month is a welcomed surprise. Keep your eyes on the link below, as it’s unclear how many pairs will come available.
