Celeb Fits: What Our Favourite Hollywood Stars (and Pro Athletes) Are Wearing

We’re officially living in a post-Fashion-Week world. Now that the dust of myriad Paris runways has settled, we’re beginning to see high-fashion seep into streetwear. And, in the thick of awards season, there’s hardly a shortage of celebrity sightings. Equipped with a team of stylists, our favourite cover alums, actors, and musicians offer inspiration for days. We’ve selected the best street-style moments of 2024 (so far). Scroll on to see the best-dressed.

Ahead of the newly-released thriller Drive Away Dolls, Matt Damon seemed to be taking inspiration from biker culture. Sporting a sleek leather jacket, large tinted shades, and lace-up platform leather boots, Damon’s look ran a risk — the line between ‘edgy’ and ‘tryhard’ is notoriously fine — but the button-down shirt and grey jeans made the ensemble feel authentic for the actor.

Deebo Samuel

What does the wide receiver’s tie have in common with his bag and boots? Well — besides looking good, of course — all three articles are undeniably Prada. That’s right: the shiny, upside-down triangle logo never gets old. The elevated boots almost lean towards steampunk, while the oversized leather bag and pocket-ridden jacket riff on recent workwear trends. All around, it’s one good look.

Paul Wesley

It used to be said that ‘classy’ and ‘comfortable’ were mutually exclusive (hello, recovering What Not To Wear fans), but with this look, actor Paul Wesley proved that the choice is a thing of the past. Oversized, tapered pants and chic white sneakers are elevated by the light brown bomber jacket, with cinched hems to keep the silhouette in shape.

Chris Pine

Love it or hate it, Chris Pine’s street style can’t go without a mention. Just look: he’s got chunky aviators, an extra-long, dangling gold coin chain, and a low-cut, blinding-red shirt, for starters. In the best way, that’s confidence, my guy. Plus, the cardigan captures the cozy, fall-winter feel of a Christmas sweater without compromising the forward-thinking vibe of the eclectic outfit. Bundled together, we’re left with a sort of Lebowski meets Mafioso energy, and we’re here for it.

Mark Ruffalo & Barry Keoghan

Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan’s photo-op on the Walk of Fame is a masterclass in style. The up-and-coming Irish actor was the epitome of ‘elevated casual.’ His baggy black pants and black lace-up boots (sensing a theme?) capture the streetwear-esque, off-the-cuff confidence that defines today’s alt-fashion. Meanwhile, Ruffalo’s black tie look reminds us why a well-tailored suit is considered a classic.

Jaden Smith

There’s something to be said for the risk takers: if you want to be on fashion’s leading edge, you’ve got to be bold. Jaden Smith, of course, doesn’t come up short. The Carhartt jacket is a classic nod to workwear, compounded by the denim wrapped around his waist. Finally, the plush boots and hat remind us that ‘fun’ is included in ‘function.’

Christian McCaffrey

And we’re back to the classics; who doesn’t appreciate a pinstripe? The running back’s double-breasted jacket and matching pants are effortless elegance, complete with orange-tinted shades to give a subtle splash of colour. Meanwhile, silver accents topped off the oversized black bag, matched by a stainless steel watch band.

Timothée Chalamet

As Dune: Part Two premieres around the world, the likes of Florence Pugh, Zendaya, Austin Butler, and Timotheé Chalamet are pulling out all the stops. Chalamet put a sci-fi twist on classic evening-wear, with well-tailored jacket and collar-free shirt. Inverting convention, an understated charcoal shirt put the focus on his tapered grey-blue pants and elegant notched lapels. High-waisted pants and rolled-up sleeves take notes from combat-ready costumes, elevated for the red carpet with top-notch material.

Noah Gray

Kansas City’s Noah Gray merged style and simplicity with an all-neutral ensemble. Wearing a simple chain over his high turtleneck, Grey evokes the Rock. Accessories like black aviators and statement headphones stoked the flames of nineties-era nostalgia, balanced out by a sleek heather grey overcoat.

Zac Efron

With the recent success of The Iron Claw, one-time teen sensation Zac Efron is back in the spotlight. Naturally, he’s looking the part. Sporting a white tee under a cold-blue velvet blazer — with what looks to be a matching blue leather strap on his wrist — Efron was at once refined and relaxed.

Mecole Hardman Jr.

White suits leave little room for in-betweens: you can either pull it off, or you can’t. Wide receiver Mecole Hardman is, decidedly, in the first camp. The floral-inspired pattern translates well onto the soft jacket texture, while sunglasses keep him from looking too formal. Elsewhere, Hardman’s earrings and heavy chain act like a counterweight, bringing out deep, almost silver undertones; deadly and dazzling.

If we said, “study hall,” you’d probably think of pencils and graphing calculators — not celebrity candids. Today, however, we’re using photos of stars in the streets for an educational purpose: style inspiration. Roads of major cities, sidewalks leading up to TAG Heuer parties, even back alleyways behind the set of Jimmy Fallon brim with fashionable fits from our favourite leading men. Now that we’re halfway through the year, it’s time to debrief the best styles — all in the spirit of sartorial schooling. Take a seat and scroll through the best looks below!

David Beckham

At the Wimbleton Tennis match, David Beckham showed the crowd that neutral doesn’t have to mean boring. Beckham’s black-dialled watch highlighted his hand tattoos, while his crisp white shirt and light pants let the jacket’s beige-brown hue shine. Completed with a sophisticated brown patterned tie, the look easily found its way to our roundup.

Jared Leto

Jared Leto’s casual look proved that sweats can be fashion forward — or at least, they can when you know what you’re doing. Monogrammed with Thirty Seconds to Mars, his black lounge pants taper down to matching sneakers, giving shape to the comfort-first fabric. On top, an inverted pale pink print elevates Leto’s graphic hoodie with an arthouse vibe.

Idris Elba

Idris Elba is eternally stylish (not that we’ve already told you thatmore than once), and his appearance at the recent premiere of Hijack was no exception. From head to toe, the actor sported a smooth-tailored fit in an airy, chrome-like lavender. Elba bookended the fit with a striped, textured split up top and plum purple shoes, complimenting the natural contrast of light and shadow.

At a press event for the highly anticipated Barbie movie, Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu gave a masterclass in rocking a pastel palette. While pale pink attire is an unconventional choice for most guys, the cotton candy colour is an easy way to flatter a summer tan and/or highlight a suit jacket. Liu’s slim-tailored red pants complement his trim green jacket and provide a grounding context for his mesh top, while Gosling’s light blue suit matches his shirt’s cool pink tone. A fan of TAG Heuer, Gosling rounded out his look with a fluorescent watch that pops on his wrist — swipe to see.

Lewis Hamilton

Pastels seem to be a recurring theme, no? Lewis Hamilton certainly proved the trend’s versatility, as he took to the streets in soft, white-purple pants and a patterned vest. While pastels are most often seen on the golf course, Hamilton’s outfit showed that light shades can easily be tailored for streetwear. Beige and white sneakers, accompanied by plenty of jewelry, accessorized the look with a laid-back feel.

Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck might be holding an iced coffee in half the photos we see, but he sure looks good doing it — this captured candid is an A+ example of layered neutrals. White-beige hues tie the sweater, jacket cuffs and shoes together, while varying shades of tawny brown add interest. Black jeans and dark shades ground the look.

Troye Sivan

The crowd of Prada’s show for Paris Fashion Week was speckled with stars, but Troye Sivan’s ensemble takes the cake for its breezy simplicity. He wears his sweater like a tank-top, his look straddling the border of casual and class. The autumn-y orange brown shade contrasts with cool-white shorts, making his hair and skin pop while dark sunglasses and boosted boots give an intrigue well suited to Fashion Week hype.

Will Poulter

Will Poulter has come a long way since he played the well-intentioned, naive to a fault Kenny Rossmore in 2013’s We’re the Millers. Ten years later, his suave style proves that some roles really are just an act. High waisted, green-beige pants accent Poulter’s sage coloured shoes, their neutral tones acting like a foil to his pink-washed coat. Meanwhile, his crisp white collar incorporates a classic vibe.

Tyga

Loose-fit jeans are here to stay. Tyga wears the 2020s staple with ease, dressing them up with an angular leather jacket and matching boots. Classy yet casual, the look updates ’60s motorcyclist vibes with a trendy silhouette.

Pelayo Díaz

Spanish actor Pelayo Díaz has dabbled in fashion design, so one could say his entry is unfair. Still, his outfit — with confident, loose-fit khakis, trendy, vertical striped shoulders, and bold, Karl Lagerfeld-like sunglasses — refuses to be snubbed. Completed by a boxy white bag and dual-toned sneakers, Díaz lets personal style shine through streetwear.

Alexander Skarsgård

Alexander Skarsgård told us he’s “quite boring” earlier this year, but his style says otherwise. The star embraced a relaxed coastal vibe with class, wearing his textured collared shirt untucked over straight-cut slacks. Black leather shoes and a shiny watch kept the look on the formal side, while the shirt’s minimalist stripe texture kept the actor on-trend.

Summer is in full swing, and celebrity street style is at its peak. Alongside red carpet appearances, many of our favourite stars are being spotted roaming city streets around the globe (though mostly New York, Los Angeles, and Paris). Kicking off this ongoing series, our editors went hunting for some of the best celeb fits of the past few weeks, and uncovered a healthy assortment of looks from the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Idris Elba, Chris Meloni, and several other Hollywood heroes.

Rob McElhenney

Spotted outside the studio where he was taking a turn at guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live, Rob McElhenney’s long sleeved polo and khakis look feels perfectly effortless. Appearing alongside his wife Kaitlin Olson, you’ll notice two subtle details that pull the look together — the way his sunglasses match the pants, and the fact that both he and Olson are wearing matching Jordans.

Chris Rock

Pulling off the “crisp white tee” look is much harder than it seems, especially if you’re spending the day roaming around Manhattan. Leave it to Chris Rock to get it just right, paired with olive drab cargos.

Ben Affleck

Ben and J. Lo were bombarded by paparazzi as they tried to enjoy their honeymoon in Paris, and while it certainly started getting on his nerves, he came out the other end of it looking pretty good. Of the many looks we spotted, this western style shirt — likely Brunello Cucinelli — and well-worn white sneakers fit him like a glove. The pants could use hemming, but with this laid back look we’ll let it slide.

Chris Meloni

Yes, we know this shot of Chris Meloni is of him in wardrobe while shooting an episode of Law and Order: Organized Crime this past week in New York, but he looks too damned good for us to just skim by without mention. Every last detail is on pint, from the contrast between shades of burgundy and blue, right down to those shoes that we’re struggling to identify.

Idris Elba

If there’s one of these celeb fits that we’re itching to replicate, it has to be Idris Elba. The tailored royal blue slacks, the matching (and current collection) Gucci GG sneakers, the shirt that plays off of the pattern in the shoes, and the dark tinted sunglasses all come together at that perfect level of casual class.

Ryan Reynolds

Hot on Elba’s heels comes Ryan Reynolds, whose look is a more relaxed take on Elba’s vibe. What look like old Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars are paired with simple cropped khakis, but the star of the show is the Pink Quilt shirt from Bode.

Bobby Flay

Bobby Flay was spotted leaving the Good Morning America studio just yesterday, seeming to be one of very few that are willing to wear denim in New York’s muggy summer weather. As many are migrating towards a more relaxed leg, Flay reminds us all of the right way to rock a slim fit.

Brad Pitt

Alright, we’re cheating again with the red carpet, but come on. Pitt hits the Bullet Train red carpet in this custom oversized and raw edged green linen suit — likely a Haans Nicholas Mott design — and then completes the look with the yellow velvet and suede Gucci X Adidas Gazelle sneakers. Mott worked on many of the looks worn by Pitt in the recent film, and we have our suspicions that we’ll be seeing more of his work in the coming years.

Regé-Jean Page

Is it too early for a cozy sweater? Not if you’re popping out of an Escalade with an iced coffee, and are heading into Good Morning America, says Regé-Jean Page. We have to agree, that creamy white double-breasted sweater pops just right when worn over a black tee.

Dave Franco

Out in Miami to promote his latest film, Day Shift, Dave Franco once again proves that he can be far more stylish than his older brother. This monochromatic look runs somewhere between pistachio and mint green, and Franco pulls it off. Bonus points for skipping the belt, which would otherwise break the continuity of the colour choice.
