Trimmed in Gold

Precious metal deserves precious metal. The 2025 Range Rover, the brand’s flagship full-size SUV, is a precious object in and of itself, but if you want to gild the lily (so to speak) with more precious metal — such as 24-karat gold — Range Rover’s designers will happily oblige.

The British marque’s SV Bespoke division exists to cater to clients’ every whim and taste, even if that whim is to add gold or silver or another precious metal. For SV Bespoke there is no project too ambitious and no request too daunting. They’ll do their utmost to make it a reality.

For example, with the debut earlier this year of the third SV Carmel Edition, Range Rover introduced 24-karat gold into its long-wheelbase SUV. The limited edition of 17 vehicles — unveiled this past summer at Range Rover House in Carmel, California — featured black metal badging accented with 24k gold. The interior is finished in a combination of Sequoia Green and Perlino Aniline leather seating with contrast stitching, dark linear wenge veneers and black ceramic dials, as well as special SV‑etched glassware for the built-in fridge.

“This curated edition illustrates the refinement and limitless design opportunities provided by SV Bespoke,” said Theresa Choh-Lee, U.S. brand director for Range Rover. The US$370,000 limited edition was first offered to Range Rover House guests, who are typically among the brand’s most loyal clients.

Of course, Range Rover’s California clientele aren’t the only ones who received their own SV Bespoke creation. Earlier this year, the firm’s Bespoke team created a limited edition of eight Range Rovers inspired by the Canadian Rockies. The Range Rover SV Arete Edition is trimmed in Liberty Blue leather with ebony textile accents by famed Danish textile firm Kvadrat, and a dazzling special-effect glossy blue paintjob that looks as deep as the ocean.

If you’d rather build your own bespoke Range Rover than opt for one those limited edition models, however, we get it. Half the fun in buying an ultra-luxury vehicle is building it out to your personal specifications.

On the latest Range Rover, the options feel endless. For example, the brand’s catalog of SV Ultra Metallic paints can only be fully appreciated when seen under the sun; they’re dazzling and rich and offered in a dozen or so colours. But that’s just one type of paint. Also available are special-effect satin and gloss paints, metallics, and much more.

Discerning customers can opt to have the cabin’s dials and controls trimmed in gloss white ceramic or satin black ceramic. (Both finishes feel deliciously luxurious to the touch.) A unique “Noble Chrome” interior finish is also available on the coat hooks, door finishers and headrest bezels, among other things.

When it comes to the seating, clients have a massive amount of choice, including quilted and/or perforated semi-aniline leather and buttery near-aniline leather in a wide range of colours. (You can even opt for both types of leather in the latest Range Rover SV, which is available with near-aniline leather across the front-seat area and semi-aniline leather throughout the rear.) For a vegan option, Kvadrat Ultrafabric is available in various colourways.

When you consider all those seating options in combination with the wide range of trim finishes on offer, the possibilities seem endless. We’re especially partial to the Natural Light Linear wenge wood veneer with mosaic marquetry that looks more like a piece of beautiful mid-century furniture than it does a piece of automotive trim. Alternatively, the Natural Cream Ash Burl veneer is unlike anything else we’ve seen in any luxury vehicle lately. Whatever you choose, chances are you’ll never see another Range Rover exactly like yours.

One of our own favourite SV Bespoke options is the wood and leather steering wheel. The inner portion of the wheel is leather, while the outer part of the rim is satin-finish veneer. When it slides through your hands as the wheel unwinds it feels almost silky.

If you’re looking to travel in first-class comfort in the rear seats while a chauffer handles the driving up front, we’d suggest the optional Club Table, available with either a leather or veneer surface. It folds out elegantly from the full-length centre console.

All of those choices can be dizzying though, so Range Rover’s designers have curated two optional “design themes” to help buyers focus their choices: SV Serenity and SV Intrepid. The former leans into pure luxury with subtle accents to emphasize its exclusivity, while the latter is a bit sportier, a little edgy and more dynamic. Naturally, when it comes to exterior colour choices, the sky really is the limit. In fact, through the SV Bespoke colour-matching service, Range Rover will literally match the paintwork to the colour of the sky if you like. Choosing just one paint colour isn’t easy, but we can promise it will be fun.
