Kendrick Lamar, Lupita Nyong’o, Margaret Qualley & Nana Komatsu Stun In New CHANEL Eyewear Campaign

“CHANEL has a timeless legacy, and that is always something I can get behind,” says Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar. He dons a pair of jet-black frames, eyes covered by smoky, tinted lenses; the shades are impossibly chic, embellished with shiny metallic studs and gold bands on either side. “Since they don’t make clothes for men,” he adds, “I knew it would have to be glasses.” Captured on camera by Karim Sadli, Lamar is one of four celebrity ambassadors to appear in CHANEL’s Spring-Summer 2025 Eyewear Campaign. The campaign puts a twist on an old adage — if the eyes are windows to the soul, then glasses are an intimate accessory indeed.

A self-described character study, the CHANEL Spring-Summer 2025 Eyewear Campaign centres creativity on camera. Alongside Lamar, the photos feature actresses Lupita Nyong’o, Margaret Qualley, and Nana Komatsu. “CHANEL glasses are special because they hold mystery,” says Qualley. “Suddenly you’re Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly, you’re signalling that you’ve got secrets.”

Carved with curved lines, the collection winks at retro silhouettes. Brooding, black-framed sunglasses command attention while clear lenses sport a wiry and whimsical shape. Celebrating creativity, a through-line of flamboyance runs through each design: audacious metallic accents contour and captivate.

For Lupita Nyong’o, the campaign is personal: she counts the French fashion house among her earliest supporters. “I remember wearing CHANEL as early as 2013 when my first film, 12 Years a Slave, was released. Over the years, the House has often invited me to shows and events and has always treated me with the utmost care,” explains the actress. As an accessory, Nyong’o adds, eyewear is equally intimate. “Eyes are often the first point of connection with people; glasses are an excellent way to express something immediate about myself. And of course, sunglasses add a touch of attitude and mystery to an outfit.”

Echoing the sentiment, Nana Komatsu calls CHANEL shades “a crucial piece to express my character and mood.” Contradiction is a focal point for the fashion house, Komatsu explains. ““CHANEL’s concept of ‘paradox’ is an important code to me. The coexistence of contrasting elements such as strength and delicacy, modern and classic, and simplicity and elegance have something in common with my style as well as my form of expression.” Eyewear seems to encapsulate this idea: while tinted shades shield the eyes, stylish designs unleash a daring form of self-expression. The new collection is painted with paradoxes.
