RAM x SHARP
There’s a revolution happening under the hood of Ram 1500’s new luxury truck, the Tungsten. For the brand’s decadent new pickup, Ram opted for a new High Output I-6, aka the Hurricane H/O, aka hold on to your hats.
The H/O is based on the 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight-six Hurricane engine that’s been getting rave reviews from critics, but the H/O turns up the heat. A lot. Instead of 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque from the standard Hurricane, the High Output pumps out 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque. For those keeping score, that’s enough chutzpah to outmuscle most naturally-aspirated V8s in the segment. But it’s how the H/O delivers its power that’s even more impressive; it’s hits like a tidal wave that just doesn’t stop. The torque curve is strong with this one.
Combined with the inherent smoothness of a straight-six, the H/O is a suitably luxurious powertrain for Ram’s new top-of-the-line 1500 Tungsten.

“The new 2025 Ram 1500 brings our customers more: more power, more performance and more fuel efficiency with our all-new 3.0-litre Hurricane engines,” said Tim Kuniskis, Ram’s chief executive officer (and noted truck guy.) “Our new powertrain offerings add to the unique combination of bold styling, leading-edge innovation and technology, durability and capability Ram customers have come to know and love,” he added.
Engineered Luxury
Getting 540 horsepower out of a 3.0-litre engine, while simultaneously meeting strict emissions regulations and fuel economy standards is no small feat. The engineering team threw every bit of cutting-edge tech into the new High Output (H/O) straight-six turbo (SST) motor.
The foundation of the Hurricane engine is an aluminium block with a structural aluminium alloy oil pan. It’s the strongest Ram engine ever, in part thanks to cross-bolted steel main bearing caps. The fact the crankshaft and connecting rods are made of forged steel.

Twin-turbochargers (on straight-six engines) are usually only found on high-performance, high-end performance cars. Using two turbochargers instead of one adds complexity, sure, but the design pays dividends in the form of rapid throttle response. The two low-volume, high-flow turbos spin up faster, resulting in a design that virtually eliminates lag and delivers immediate power when you put your foot down.
The engine’s whole spec sheet reads like an engineer’s wish list: plasma transfer wire arc coating in the cylinder bores to create a thin, low-friction wear surface; high-pressure (5,075 psi) direct fuel injection for optimal combustion; and an engine-mounted water-to-air charge cooler with a dedicated cooling circuit for maximizing efficiency.
It all adds up to this: the Hurricane H/O is Ram’s most forward-thinking combustion engine, delivering power and torque that competes with traditional V8s, as well as fuel efficiency and range that gives drivers the power to go the distance.

On the road, the H/O makes the Tungsten shockingly quick for a full-size pickup. Independent testing puts its 0-100 km/h acceleration time at around 4.5 seconds, which makes this pickup quicker than some Porsche sports cars. Yes, really.
The Power of Choice
While the Hurricane H/O represents the pinnacle of Ram 1500’s internal combustion technology, the brand isn’t resting on its laurels.
One upcoming model we’re really curious about is the all-new Ram 1500 Ramcharger; it’s a battery-powered truck with an onboard generator in the form a 3.6L Pentastar V6 combustion engine. The range-extender powertrain gives the truck an estimated range of over 1,000 kilometres, using a combination of battery and gasoline power. It could be a game-changer in the pickup world.
In that context, think of the Hurricane engines as a bridge between Ram’s celebrated past and its electric future. This is a recognition that both paths can coexist.

The Ultimate Luxury Truck
For luxury truck buyers seeking the perfect balance of tradition and innovation, the Hurricane H/O-powered 2025 Ram 1500 Tungsten makes a compelling case for itself. Here is a rolling showcase of what’s possible when engineering excellence meets ultimate luxury and Ram capability. It’s a truck with the power and straight-line speed to rival sports cars, a decadent cabin to rival luxury sedans, and proof positive that Ram is a brand on the cutting edge of engineering innovation.
