Seth Rogen’s Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy for his role in The Studio is part of a much larger, history-making achievement for the show. Rogen stars as the newly appointed head of Continental Studios, a movie studio in Hollywood. The series is a sharp, meta-comedy that follows Rogen’s character and his team of executives as they desperately juggle corporate demands and talent ambitions all while trying to keep movies relevant in the modern era. The show itself achieved an extraordinary feat, becoming the most Emmy-winning freshman comedy in history, garnering 23 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and breaking the record for the most wins for a comedy series in a single season. There’s no doubt that it will strike gold at the Golden Globes. Read our interview with SHARP cover star Seth Rogen.

Ryan Coogler’s period horror film Sinners is set in the 1932 Mississippi Delta, where Michael B. Jordan stars in the dual lead roles of twin brothers, Smoke and Stack Moore. The film blends the gritty drama of the Jim Crow South with supernatural horror as the brothers return to their hometown to open a juke joint only to confront a menacing threat. Jordan delivers a powerhouse performance (or two), successfully breathing life into two distinct, complex and ambitious men, grounding the film’s high-stakes action with themes of identity and legacy. Jordan earned his first Golden Globe nomination for his work in this, along with a Critics Choice Awards nom, where the film leads with an impressive 17 nominations. Clint Bentley’s Train Dreams is a thought-provoking meditation on an ordinary life of a logger in the setting of the early 20th-century American West. Edgerton plays Robert Grainier, who lives a reserved, solitary life defined by physical work, isolation and an inescapable sense of regret and trauma from an act of violence he witnessed. Edgerton gives one of the best performances of his career as the often-silent protagonist, carrying sorrow, heartbreak and resilience through subtle expressions and body language. It’s his quiet, restrained performance that earned him a Golden Globe nomination as well as nods from the Critics Choice Awards and the Film Independent Spirit Awards for Best Lead Performance. Adam Scott is a perennial major contender for his complex, dual-sided performance as Mark Scout. The show centres on Lumon Industries, where employees undergo a surgical procedure that “severs” their memories, creating a distinct work self (Innie Mark) and an outside-of-work self (Outie Mark). His Golden Globe nomination follows a prior nomination for the same role and is supported by an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and a Critics Choice Super Award win. The continuous critical praise for Severance and the challenge of portraying the “Innie” and “Outie” personas makes him a frontrunner in the Drama Series race.
