Awards season – a time to celebrate the best in entertainment, whether that’s groundbreaking films, binge-worthy television or career-defining performances. And, of course, it’s also a moment to celebrate and dissect the most stylish and best-dressed on the red carpet.

When it comes to menswear, red carpet style can be a tricky proposition – there are codes to adhere to and venturing too far outside them can quickly feel out of place. The beauty is in the details and in mastering the fundamentals: trousers that fall just right, a sleeve that hits the proper spot, or a small accessory that makes a world of difference.

While not technically the first gala of the cycle, the Golden Globes – doled out by the Hollywood Foreign Press – arguably marks the true start of awards season. After this most recent ceremony, which saw Timothée Chalamet take home the award for Best Actor in Drama for his portrayal in Marty Supreme, we round up the best-dressed men of the evening.

Joe Alwyn

Long a supporter of Jonathan Anderson, it was no surprise to see Alwyn arrive at the Golden Globes wearing Dior. The dark blue velvet tuxedo brought a touch of refined formality that paired well with Alwyn’s decision to eschew a bowtie. While some might argue that Alwyn’s sleeves were too long, the choice aligns with Anderson’s exploration of 18th century silhouettes. Again… it’s about the details.

Paul Mescal

Perhaps Mescal and Alwyn have started a trend, both opting for tuxedos and traditional wing tip collars without bow ties. Mescal’s ensemble had a slightly looser cut to it in the jacket but wore it with a proper cummerbund. Chelsea boots instead of traditional loafers or Oxfords brought another touch of modernity, while the small, tasteful Cartier Tortue brought an old school vibe.

Colman Domingo

Add Colman Domingo to the list of stars pushing to leave bowties in 2025. Domingo’s red carpet dominance was one of our big stories of 2025 and that momentum continued at the Golden Globes, where the actor pushed the theoretical limits of brooches, with a bevy of lace-like embroideries affixed to his lapel and the left side of his double-breasted smoking jacket. It was a fun way to put a twist on an otherwise sleek all-black look.

Adam Scott

There’s something about Adam Scott’s decision to wear a bold red jacket with an otherwise classic tuxedo that calls to mind Severance, the show in which he stars. Perhaps it’s the use of colour to bring a sense of drama and intrigue to minimalist decor. Well-tailored, Scott’s ensemble is a fantastic example of how to bring a fun touch to black tie attire without straying too far from the norms.

Seth Rogen

Seth Rogen may have eclectic taste (have you seen his pottery?) but it is undeniably good taste. Case in point: finding a way to bring a more casual take to the tuxedo, while imbuing it with Rogen’s now signature laissez-faire cool. Nothing matches, despite all being from Prada – a dark blue double-breasted jacket with black satin lapels, dark grey trousers, a lighter grey shirt, a black bow tie. Put it all together, though, and Rogen makes it work.

Matty Matheson

The Canadian chef now known for his lovable performance in The Bear has made a concerted effort in the last few years to take his red carpet game to the next level. Once famous for his unpolished look (think ripped jeans and threadbare graphic tees), Matheson has become the face of Harry Rosen’s made-to-measure program. While the suit itself is lovely – we’re always fans of proper cuffs on trousers – it’s the quality of the tailoring that makes this look so good, showcasing how the best suits are cut for each person’s body.

Michael B. Jordan

Michael B. Jordan showed up in a sophisticated Prada getup in a rich, chocolate shade of brown, with a cream shirt and tinted glasses. Like Matheson, Jordan’s look was a reminder that everybody has tones – and cuts – that suit them better than others. Figure that out, and you’re well on your way to pulling off red carpet-level looks.

Lee Byung-Hun

The star of No Other Choice made history as the first ever Korean nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. And while that alone was cause for celebration, Lee opted for a more understated ensemble, pairing a deep black velvet smoking jacket with wide shawl lapels and straight-legged trousers with a black shirt and black bowtie. Sometimes it can be hard to make the all-black look stand out, but this offered a masterclass in elevating it.
