Checking Out: The Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 50
Virgil Abloh, the late Men’s Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton, used to emphasize the importance of what he called “un-design.” It’s an essential part of an ethos that remained in evidence across the work he created for the French luxury fashion house. But perhaps nowhere is its bold spirit more apparent than in the Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 50. With its striking, highly original “monogram chess” patterning, which creates a transparent checkerboard effect that alternates between opaque and clear panels, this bag is at once a boundary-pushing work of contemporary design and classically (and unmistakably) Louis Vuitton. “We are a generation that’s searching for what rules you can break,” Abloh once said. With this Keepall bag, he broke them all over again.
