Most workout machines favour function over form. As such and despite your best efforts, they wind up gathering dust in your basement. Out of sight, out of mind, and all that. The Ciclotte, part stationary bike, part statement piece, bucks that trend. Italian designer Luca Schieppati has eschewed all but the essentials (pedals, handlebars, flywheel) to achieve this practical piece of art, based on the CiclШ, his monowheel road bike that’s now in the permanent collection at Milan’s Triennale Design Museum. It’s the first exercise bike to use electromagnetic resistance: every pedal rotation creates four flywheel spins, which generates a high-intensity magnetic field and maximizes resistance. Good cardio, great feng shui.
